Best lesson from a Disney movie
This is an underrated movie
This is a grossly underrated movie.
Can I take a minute to rant? Good. Cuz I’m gonna.
I FLOVE this movie. And I HATE all the stupid hatred it gets. For a long time the buzz was “finally a black princess yay!” and now everyone is like “Fuck this movie, first black princess and she spends the whole movie a frog.”
You know what? Fuck that. Because Ariel spent a good majority of the movie not talking. Mulan spent the majority of the move pretending to be a man. Aurora and Snow White? Asleep (Hardly in the movie at all). They’re all just plot devices, not designed to take away from the traits of the women.
And you know what else? Unlike some of the other princesses, Tiana is in control of her destiny every step of the way. When she turns into the frog does she lose hope and need rescuing? Hell naw. She busts Naveen over the head and gets the job done. She is consistently responsible and capable even after having her dreams crushed and turning into a freaking frog.
So don’t tell me that Tiana is “less than” just because she gets turned into a frog. She’s still one of the most hardworking, badass, and capable chicks in animated history and I love her like crazy cakes.
Me reblogging this is my contribution to earth day
The rest of the space is going to be pretty pissed when they see this.
did you google how to take a screen shot
it’s really not a coincidence that winter soldier is being talked about as the best marvel movie yet
when you give women and poc the same importance and development as you do your white males, amazing things happen
#like you would NOT have this movie without natasha sam maria and nick#chris sebastian and redford were amazing in it but to have women and poc be PIVOTAL to the plot#and be actual fleshed out important characters is just#!!!!!! idek how to describe it#but it also makes me sad because this movie PROVED that it’s totally possible to have more diversity#it’s just that people aren’t willing to include it in their films

“‘you do not care, then, about the deaths of her husband and child? they can die, as long as you have what you want?’
snape said nothing, but merely looked up at dumbledore” ???
my main problem with snape is that the only reason he decided to switch over to the “good side” was because lily was being targeted and eventually died. not because he realized that killing muggle-borns and muggles was wrong. not because he realized that pureblood supremacy was wrong.
and, then, he never ever developed as a person. sure, he was on the “good side”, but his actions to neville, hermione, harry, and really many other students were completely unacceptable.
he calls hermione an “insufferable know-it-all”, something that is extremely innapropriate for a teacher, of all people, to say, especially as he was no doubt aware of how hermione looks up to teachers. if he had not been so biased, he, like all the other teachers, would have appreciated the hard work and effort she put into his class.
his treatment of harry - though people try to justify it as ‘harry’s the reason lily’s dead’ or ‘he reminds snape of james’ - is also unacceptable. being fully aware of the fact that harry did not grow up in a wizarding family, he proceeds to ask him difficult questions the first day of class and then sneer and mock him for not knowing the answers. his terrible behavior towards harry doesn’t stop as harry gets older, though, as seen with how snape has no patience or does not seem to realize that occlumency is not the easiest thing.
his behavior towards neville is so far past not okay it isn’t even funny. neville did nothing to snape, other than be lucky enough that voldemort didn’t go after him. neville wasn’t as bright as the other kids and had extreme self-confidence issues, as well as two parents tortured to insanity, and yet snape saw it fit to be a complete and utter asshole to him, mocking him to the point where snape was neville’s biggest fear.
and then we go back to the fact that severus snape expected lily, a muggle-born, to love him after joining a terrorist group targeting people like her and calling her a racial slur.
i don’t disagree that snape’s character is interesting and well-written, but thy fact remains he’s a terrible human being and, while it’s perfectly okay to like him, you need to be aware that he should not be excused for any of his actions. tragic backstory does not excuse actions, it only explains them.
remus teaches the marauders some muggle pop culture, and then immediately regrets it when they work out how to blast the song hungry like a wolf whenever he comes into a room
